The United Kingdom's Disabled People's Council (UKDPC) Research Committee - Terms of Reference
Within the overall aim of achieving an inclusive and
holistic approach to disability issues within mainstream society The UKDPC
Research Committee will seek to fulfil the following objectives:
- To advise and influence the formulation of policy on research and research related issues relevant to
UKDPC member organisations and individual members;
- To review and report to the UKDPC National Council and to relevant UKDPC Committees on issues relating to disability research and related issues;
- To provide advice and support to UKDPC member organisations on the development of applications for disability research projects for submission to funding agencies;
- To liase with other research organisations and funders on matters relevant to organisations of disabled people;
- To nominate individuals to represent UKDPC on research advisory bodies, as and when requested.
Membership
- Chair (to be appointed by UKDPC National council) (Post currently held by Professor Mike Oliver: University of Greenwich).
- Director of UKDPC Research Unit (Centre for Disability Studies: University of Leeds) and Secretary (Post currently held by Professor Colin Barnes).
- Representative (or nominee) of UKDPC National Council (post Currently held by Pam Thomas).
- Representative (or nominee) of the UKDPC National Centre for Independent Living (post currently held by Frances Hasler).
- Representative (or nominee) of Disability Awareness in Action (post currently held by Rachel Hurst).
- Representative (or nominee) of Social Care Institute for Excellence (post currently held by Jane Campbell).
- Four representatives of UKDPC member organisations or individual members (current members include Karen Beauchamp-Pryor, Laurance Clark, Edie Fisher, Raul
Perry).
Note: Representatives of other relevant agencies and individuals to be invited to be in attendance at
UKDPC Research group meetings as the need arises.
Meetings
The Committee will meet no less than three times per year and will report to the
UKDPC National Council via the minutes.
Members are required to attend at least two meetings per year. Failure to attend two consecutive meetings without good reason may result in the individual concerned being asked
to forfeit their committee membership.
