UKDPC Sub Committees

UKDPC is very active on policy development and research. We have a number of Sub Committees working on key disability issues. These are made up of individual disabled people from UKDPC Member Groups who are experts on particular issues. Our current Committees are:

International and Human Rights

The Committee is looking at a wide range of human rights issues as well as arranging our participation in international disability forums.

UKDPC is making an increasing contribution at the international level and we have had major input into conferences in Sweden, Poland, Holland, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Canada and Australia.

The Committee has sponsored a Bio-Ethics Seminar looking at "genetics and the implications for disabled people". Read The New Genetics and Disabled People - A Discussion Document.

Equality

UKDPC is working to achieve full equality within our movement so that all disabled people can influence our policies and programmes.

We recognise that whilst UKDPC has direct representation from some groups who experience simultaneous oppression there are still many disabled people whose voice is not heard.

Research

UKDPC has established a Research Unit at the University of Leeds and this Committee operates from that Unit. Over recent years UKDPC has become a leading researcher and publisher on disability issues. Publications include:

The research committee meets regularly and have recently produced two documents. The first is the The United Kingdom's Disabled People's Council (UKDPC) Research Committee, Terms of Reference and a (draft) briefing document entitled The Social Model of Disability and Emancipatory Disability Research - Briefing Document (Draft)

Please see our publications list for details of the above titles.
