Disabled Parents Open National Centre

Thanks to a grant from the Home Office Family Policy Unit disabled parents have a one-stop-shop to contact for information, advice and support.

The National Centre is home to Disability, Pregnancy and Parenthood International (DPPI) and Disabled Parents Network (DPN) two organisations controlled by disabled parents.

Both DPPI and DPN believe that disabled parents have the right to have children and be properly supported to carry out this important job.

Here are some examples why disabled parents contact the National Centre:

  • I’ve got cerebral palsy and am thinking about having a baby, what do I need to know?
  • Do you have information on cots that may make dealing with my baby easier as I have a back injury?
  • I have MS. Although Social Services have assessed my needs, I’ve just been told they can’t provide me with any support
  • My 4 year old daughter is starting school soon, can you give me some information on rights of access into state schools

From the National Centre disabled parents have easy access to all that DPPI and DPN have to offer. If the National Centre is unable to help, disabled parents will help to find someone who can.

Who is the National Centre for?

  • All disabled parents, including parents with physical or sensory impairments, parents with learning difficulties, parents with long term illnesses and parents dealing with mental illness;
  • Disabled people looking to become parents
  • Family, friends and allies of disabled parents
  • Health, social work and other professionals and organisations working with disabled parents.
