Building a National Register of Approved Disability Equality/Action Trainers

Disability Equality in Education and Southampton Centre for Independent Living have been commissioned by BCODP to bring together a Consortium of like-minded organisations of Disabled People and individual trainers which provide training and subscribe to the principles of the Social Model of Disability.

The Consortium will contribute to the establishment and eventual administration of a National Register and Regional Network of Disability Equality / Action Trainers.

The Consortium will, over the course of the next 15 months, work to create an environment, structures and
processes that will go some way to achieving the following outcomes.

  1. An operative Regional Network for Disability Equality / Action Trainers allied to the BCODP’s structure, which gains recognition as the leading Training Agency for DET/DAT, managed and led by disabled people.
  2. An operative registration, accreditation, evaluation and monitoring
process for Disability Equality / Action Trainers which is endorsed
    by the Disabled People’s Movement.
  3. A Disability Equality / Action Trainer’s pack of resources and
materials acceptable to the Disabled People’s Movement
  4. Effective contacts between the Regional
Development Agencies / Learning Skills Councils
& BCODP and / or its partners.

We will be holding a series of meetings from September 2002 to January 2003, to develop the Consortium. This is the most exciting and challenging project you could be involved in during the next two years.
