Affiliate Membership is for larger organisations that wish to support The United Kingdom's Disabled People's Council and demonstrate their commitment to equal opportunites. Affiliate members typically include trade unions, local authorities and larger commercial businesses. Smaller organisations can become Supporting Members.
Affiliates must be able to show that they are promoting the full equality of disabled people. We therefore need to see a copy of your equal opportunities policy and just as importantly, details that can demonstrate a clear commitment to, and an understanding of the struggle for disabled people's full integration into society.
Information would be welcomed, for example, about any initiatives on making employment within the organisation accessible to applicants with impairments, or any awareness-raising campaigns that have involved disabled people.
For a cost of £250, an organisation will receive a laminated certificate, which states UKDPC approval and recognition of their activities, and will also receive regular mailing of information about developments in the disabled peoples' movement. Affiliates receive our newsletter and are able to use our services.
Groups applying for affiliated member status will be considered by our Executive Committee. If it is agreed that your organisation has clearly demonstrated its commitment to disability equality, we will write to let you know, and welcome you as a valued affiliate.
